Honorary Degree Citation
Steve Wozniak, Innovator and Co-founder of Apple Computer, Inc.
Steve Wozniak, you have dedicated your life to technological
innovation, and to the advancement of educational technology.
As a Silicon Valley icon and philanthropist for the past three
decades, you helped shape the computing industry with your design
of Apple Computer's first line of products, the Apple I and II,
as well as influencing the design of the popular Macintosh computer.
For your achievements at Apple
Computer, you were awarded the National Medal of Technology by the
President Ronald Reagan in 1985, which is the highest honor bestowed
to American innovators.
You were inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame in 2000, and
were awarded the prestigious Heinz Award for Technology, the Economy
and Employment, and have received numerous awards and recognitions
from technology and civic organizations.
Making significant investments of both time and resources in education,
you lit "the fires of excitement for education in grade school
students and their teachers" by adopting California's Los Gatos
School District, and providing students and teachers with hands-on
teaching and donations of state-of-the-art technology equipment.
You also founded the Electronic Frontier Foundation and were the
founding sponsor of the Tech Museum, Silicon Valley Ballet, and
Children's Discovery Museum of San Jose.
A true believer in education, you earned a Bachelor of Science
in computer science and a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical
Engineering from the University of California Berkeley, and have
received an honorary doctorate from North Carolina State University.
Steve Wozniak, in acknowledgment of your lifelong commitment to
technology and education, the trustees of Nova Southeastern University
are proud to award you the honorary degree of Doctor of Science,
with all of its rights and privileges.
