The 2006 Commencement Ceremony was held Saturday, June 17, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. at the BankAtlantic Center located in Sunrise, Florida.

L. William Seidman, American Economist and Financial Commentator

L. William Seidman, you have dedicated your life to government service and the improvement of the U. S. economy. Presently, you are the chief commentator on CNBC-TV and publisher of Bank Director Magazine.

You received your undergraduate education at Dartmouth, graduating Phi Beta Kappa, and earned an M.B.A. (with honors) from the University of Michigan, and an LL.B. from Harvard Law School.

During your distinguished career you have served the public in several capacities.  You have served as dean of the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University, and you also have the distinction of having served unser three U.S. presidents.

You began working in United States government as Assistant of Economic Affairs and a member of the Arizona Governor's Commission on Interstate Banking under President Gerald Ford, and as co-chair of the White House Conference on Productivity under President Ronald Reagan.

From 1985 to 1991, you served as the Chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation under President Reagan and President George Bush. You worked extensively during the American savings and loan crisis to restore solvency to this failing sector of American banking. From 1989 until your retirement from active government in 1991, you were the first chairman of the related agency, the Resolution Trust Corporation, which was created specifically to address issues arising from the savings and loan crisis.

Prior to your government service, you served as CEO of Seidman and Seidman (now BDO Seidman) Certified Public Accountants, and as Chief Financial Officer and Director of Phelps Dodge Corporation.

Your expertise in finance is highly sought after and you have been a consultant to the World Bank, Deposit Corporation of Japan, Morgan Stanley (Asia), Ernst & Young, Nippon Credit Bank, Freddie Mac, and the Capital Group.
You are currently a member of the board of directors of InteliData, Inc., Fisery, Inc., Clark Consulting, Quepasa.com, Amstone, Inc., GMAC Bank, GMAC Commercial Mortgage, Pharmaceutical Resources, Inc., and LML Systems.

L. William Seidman, in acknowledgment of your lifelong commitment to the finance industry and U.S. economy, the trustees of Nova Southeastern University are proud to award you the honorary degree of doctor of commerce, with all of its rights and privileges.
