How to Browse Electronic Databases
Browse by Subject or Type
• Move your cursor to Electronic Resources, scroll to Databases and click on it
• Click on NSU PATRONS
• The page that appears gives you the option to browse by subject, name, or vendor. First we are going to browse by subject.
• Scroll through the list of database subjects. Here are just a few examples of subjects you will see:
• Arts and Humanities
• Computer and Information Science
• Education
• Health and Medicine
• Law and Criminal Justice
• Ocean and Acquatic Sciences
• Psychology and Behavioral Sciences
• Select Computer and Information Science and then click Get List
• You will see a list of about 20 databases. Here are a few:
• ACM Digital Library
• Guide to Computing Literature
• INFORMS PubsOnLine
• Click on the database ACM Digital Library. This will allow you to access full text of any article ever published by ACM. You can search for a specific paper or browse the Digital Library, which includes, e.g.:
• Journals
• Magazines
• Transactions
• Proceedings
• Newsletters
• Special Interest Groups
• On the left side of the screen you’ll see a list of recently loaded issues and proceedings. Click on one of these and wait for the volume to open.
• Under Table of Contents, click on any paper. Notice that its abstract has been displayed followed by its reference list, keywords, etc. To see the entire article, click on the PDF icon at the top (after the words Full Text) and wait for the article to open.
