ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery, is an international scientific and educational organization dedicated to advancing the arts, sciences, and applications of information technology. With a world-wide membership ACM is a leading resource for computing professionals and students working in the various fields of Information Technology, and for interpreting the impact of information technology on society.
ACM established Student Chapters to provide an opportunity for students to play a more active role in the Association and its professional activities. Today, more than 500 colleges and universities throughout the world participate in the ACM Student Chapter Program, whose aims are to enhance learning through exchange of ideas among students, and between established professionals and students.

ACM is the world's oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society. Since 1947 ACM has provided a vital forum for the exchange of information, ideas, and discoveries. Today, ACM serves a membership of computing professionals and students in more than 100 countries in all areas of industry, academia, and government.
ACM publishes, distributes, and archives original research and firsthand perspectives from the world's leading thinkers in computing and information technologies. ACM offers over two dozen publications that help computing professionals negotiate the strategic challenges and operating problems of the day. The ACM Press Books program covers a broad spectrum of interests in computer science and engineering.
ACM's Special Interest Groups (SIGs) in 34 distinct areas of information technology address your varied interests - programming languages, graphics, computer-human interaction, and mobile communications, just to name a few. Each SIG organizes itself around those specific activities that best serve both its practitioner- and research-based constituencies. Many SIGs sponsor conferences and workshops and offer members reduced rates for registration and proceedings. SIGs also produce newsletters and other publications, or support lively e-mail forums for information exchange. Choosing to join a SIG may be one of the most important decisions of your career.
ACM and its SIGs sponsor more than 100 conferences around the world every year, attracting over 100,000 attendees in total. Each conference publishes a Proceedings, and many have exhibitions.
