Master of Science Degree Programs

The M.S. degrees are designed to give students a thorough knowledge of their field and to provide an enduring foundation for future professional growth. Each program blends theory and practice into a learning experience that develops skills applicable to complex real-world problems. Online and on-campus formats offer full-time students the opportunity to earn the degree in 12 months and working professionals the opportunity to earn the degree in 16–24 months.

M.S. in Computer Information Systems focuses on the information technology foundations of computer information systems including areas such as database systems, human-computer interaction, data and computer communications, artificial intelligence, information security, computer graphics, and software engineering. A concentration in information security is available.

M.S. in Computer Science
prepares students for advanced study in computer science building on a foundation in theory and systems. Beginning fall 2012, concentrations are available in theory, computer systems, software engineering, security, database, and real-world computing.

M.S. in Information Security addresses the rapidly growing global problems of maintaining and securing computer information. Important areas addressed by the program includes threats and vulnerabilities, cryptography, authentication and access control, security models, network security, trusted computer systems, distributed systems security, World Wide Web security, applications security, and security management and policies. The program is recognized by the National Security Agency (NSA) based on its certification of the school’s curriculum for compliance with NSA national training standards.

M.S. in Information Technology allows students to span the IT spectrum, providing for concentrations in information technology or security management, information systems security, educational technology, and software development. 

M.S. in Information Technology in Education
meets the needs of working professionals such as educators, trainers, administrators, technical support staff, and developers working in the public or private sector. Optional concentrations in educational technology management, information security management, instructional design and development, and social computing and learning leverage the breadth of the school's expertise to produce well-rounded scholars and practitioners. (Note many courses in this program are only available online.)

M.S. in Management Information Systems focuses on the application of technological concepts of information systems to the collection, retention, and dissemination of information for management planning and decision making. Concentrations are available in information security management and business intelligence / analytics.

The Graduate School of Computer and Information Sciences has been a pioneer in online graduate education. It began offering online programs in 1983 and created the first electronic classroom in 1985. Since that time, it has developed other unique software tools to enhance the online learning environment.
