The table shows a rubric that will be used for typical errors on written assignments for which one or two points will be subtracted for each error from the total possible. Grading, however, does include subjectivity (e.g., content, organization, readability, and style). The table is representative, not exhaustive, of all possibilities. Please note, evaluation criteria relating to format and assignment submission via ESET, due dates, and assignment content are also covered in the syllabus.

Written Assignments

Format error

Lack of analysis and synthesis in discussion

Grammar, syntax, or spelling error

Required element missing

Discussion unsupported by appropriate references

Lack of depth in discussion

Factual errors

One full letter grade will be deducted for work submitted late within one week of the due date. Two full letter grades will be deducted for work submitted late between one and two weeks of the due date. After two weeks, the assignment will not be accepted. No assignments will be accepted after July 30.
Note: If you have difficulty submitting work through either the ESET system or the Student Forums, contact the SCIS technical support center (scisweb@scis.nova.edu).

Grading considerations for assignment four:

What constitutes as a knowledge-based contribution?

The topic must relate to course content. Sample topics are listed on the syllabus.
The topic can be one that you initiate or to which you respond. Each contribution should consist of about two to three well-written paragraphs. Your content must be supported by at least one reference.
Merely agreeing or disagreeing with a posting is not adding to the knowledge base of the discussion. Your comments must also shed new information about a topic under discussion with support from a new reference.
A reference may be a live link. Any posting, however, should include the complete reference in APA format.
Assignment four involves collaboration. A balance is required between topics you initiate and those to which you respond. Entries on your submission should clearly state the difference. Your 10 best postings must reflect that collaborative effort.
