Postings at the student forum. These will be the first postings to each thread that students will see. The directions will be posted for each thread, but it would be helpful for students to know in advance what information to post and how. When you return home from cluster, please access the forum as soon as you can and sign-in. The choice to do two book reviews or the synthesized literature review should be made as soon as possible and your decision posted. As the need for other threads arises, new ones will be added. Although I added my own touches, the rules below are essentially the same as those for the Institute class, as stated by Dr. Abramson.

Rules for Posting

Use REPLY to the instructor's message.
On the subject line, enter your name.
In the message box, write one or two sentences about yourself. This might include where you live, what you do, and where you are in the DCTE program--your choice. This will indicate that you have access to the forum and reacquaint everyone with you.

Recruitment for Term A (or B, C, D, E, as the case applies):
Subject: Rules for Posting

Remember as the teacher of the mini course you are posting, the first part of assignment one (your teaching materials) is due on time (Eastern Standard Time), submitted via the ESET, by the third day after the course starts for the term.

If you are the teacher, create a NEW message in this forum. In the subject line, put the title of your mini course. You may follow the model template for course offerings in the program book, using only items you deem relevant. Alternately, you may create a totally new recruitment page.
If you are the student selecting a mini course, use REPLY to the course you are selecting on the recruitment page.

Synthesized Literature Reviews
Subject:
Rules for Posting

Your entry should be a NEW message, not a reply.
In the subject box, write your name.
In the message box, write two sentences. The first should describe your topic and the second, the target population you are investigating.

Rules for Posting

Be sure to monitor the "three to a book" rule. To establish priority, follow the rules in the syllabus.

Your entry should be a NEW message to this thread for each book, not a reply to a message.
In the subject box, type the author's name and the year.
In the body of the message, type the complete reference in APA format.

Relevant Journal Articles:
Subject: Rules for Posting

Use this thread for posting articles from magazines and journals. Relevant means about teaching and learning online. (If the article is online, use the website thread.) Post in this fashion:

Enter your posting as a NEW message.
In the subject box, type a few words about the subject of the article.
In the body of the message, type the complete reference in APA format.
Leave a blank line and write a sentence or two on why you recommend the article.
Students should use REPLY for additional comments related to the posting.

Relevant, Timely Websites
Subject:
Rules for Posting

Please use this thread for posting articles found on timely, relevant websites. Relevant means about teaching and learning online. The posting should be a live link and a sentence or two explaining why someone would want to go there.

Enter your posting as a NEW message.
In the subject box, type a few words about the subject of the article.
In the body of the message, type the complete live link.
Leave a blank line and write a sentence or two on why you recommend the article.

Monthly Communications
Subject:
Rules for Posting

Under this thread, I will post course-related information. Students should also use this thread for course-related issues, or postings of interest for the entire class that may not fit appropriately under other threads. This is different from the chat format of the Coffee Hour thread, in which students can choose or not choose to participate.

Essentials of Online Teaching (Post Secondary)
Subject:
Experiences Teaching Online

This thread should be used for pointers or lessons learned as we move through the teaching aspects of our innovations: the mini-courses. Your "subject" may be a question to which the "message" provides your answer.

Entries may be short or long and may be responded to by others, using REPLY. To keep "on topic":

Remember that these "tips" must relate to teaching online adult learners;
Do not get embroiled in technology literacy;
Keep your remarks lean and clean.
You may wish to modify your own "tip" during the term. That is real reflective learning.
These tips should come from personal experience. They may be backed up by literature, but literature alone is not relevant.
